Sustainability

Producing well is the only way to keep producing

Conventional and organic Ecuadorian bananas, from a chain we look after from the farm to the port.

We look after the origin so every box can travel far

Organic bananas

What it means for a banana to be organic

Bonita Farms grows organic bananas on 1,300 hectares. Organic is not a marketing label: it is a way of producing that is verified through regular inspections.

  1. Care for the soil and biodiversity

Soil fertility is managed with natural processes, and the life around the crop is part of the system.

  2. No synthetic chemical inputs

The crop avoids synthetic chemical pesticides and fertilizers; only the inputs authorized by the organic standard are used.

  3. Independent verification

A control body certifies and checks the farm, at least once a year, so the fruit can be sold as organic.

Certifications

Certifications that build trust

Each seal answers a question a demanding buyer asks.

  • Organic

    What it is

Agricultural production based on natural substances and processes: no synthetic chemical pesticides or fertilizers, with care for soil fertility and biodiversity.

    What it means for us

For us, growing organic means looking after the soil, the water and the life around our farms, starting with the 1,300 hectares of Bonita Farms. It is a promise we keep every day, and one an independent body checks.

  • GlobalG.A.P.

    What it is

International standard for good agricultural practices for fruit and vegetables, verified every year by an independent certification body.

    What it means for us

For us it means working with method: recording, measuring and improving every step of growing and packing, so every Bonita box can be traced back to its origin and reach the table safely, while looking after the people who grow it.

    • GRASP

Assesses workers’ health, safety and welfare on the farm, with attention to labor rights and the protection of young workers.

    • FSMA

Aligns the farm with the FDA Produce Safety Rule, for fruit exported to the United States.

    • R4T

Biosecurity measures to prevent the entry and spread of the Fusarium TR4 fungus (tropical race 4), one of the most destructive banana diseases.

  • Rainforest Alliance

    What it is

Sustainable agriculture certification: the farm meets environmental and social requirements, such as healthy forests, respect for wildlife, human rights and better livelihoods for farmers.

    What it means for us

For us it means growth and caring for the environment go hand in hand: protecting forests and wildlife, respecting people and working so that the lives of those who grow bananas get better with every harvest.

Traceability

From farm to port, a chain we control

Corporación Noboa backs every Bonita box with its own ships, two cardboard companies, a plastics company, a truck fleet, and the largest container yard in Ecuador. Controlling the chain means controlling quality.

Our people

Behind every box there is a family

Producers, cooperatives and teams in the field, the plant and the port make it possible for Bonita to reach every destination. We grow when the people who work with us grow.
